Back to Know Your Role

KNOW YOUR ROLE SCHOLARSHIP

The Southern Oregon Sports Commission is pleased to partner with KOBI-NBC Channel 5 to present our Know Your Role Scholarship again this spring.  The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a local senior who meets the following criteria:


Qualifications:

1.  Must be a senior.

2.  Must display great sportsmanship and a strong work ethic during games and practices.

3.  Dedicated in the classroom, as well as their particular sport or activity.

4.  Considered a leader/role model for the team and other students.

5.  Reliably displays characteristics consistent with the Know Your Role program (respect, sportsmanship, fun)


This award is intended to go to a student-athlete who best exemplifies great sportsmanship as a whole. It could be a 4-year varsity starter, or it could be the player who worked hard to make varsity as a senior, yet only plays once in a while. The goal of this award is to recognize a student-athlete with the best sportsmanship in high school athletics.


  • Nominations will be open from April 1st to May 16th, 2026
  • Nominations will be made by school athletic directors, coaches, club staff, or board of directors 
  • Nominations can only be made via the form below

How winners are determined:

  • The nominations will be reviewed, and a winner will be selected by members of the Southern Oregon Sports Commission and the Know Your Role committee  
  • The winner will be presented a certificate for the scholarship amount and invited to take part in local media promotion of the award
  • The student will be invited to throw the first pitch at Know Your Role night with the Medford Rogues on Friday, July 10th
  • The recipient of the scholarship must submit their acceptance letter to the institution of higher learning (trade school, community college, or university) they will be attending to the Southern Oregon Sports Commission, and then a check will be submitted from the fund to the institution in the student’s name
