MEDFORD, Ore. – For the first time, the American Cornhole Organization is hosted a major tournament in Oregon.

“There’s a lot of community buy-in trying to bring the ACO here,” Travel Medford’s T.J. Holmes said. “The city is behind us, a lot of different local organizations. So it’s really exciting when you see a fully community buy-in of wanting to have a tournament like this.”

Travel Medford and the ACO partnered to bring the cornhole tournament to Southern Oregon.

The American Cornhole Organization’s first major tournament in Oregon wrapped up at the Medford Armory on February 4th.

The two-day tournament featured over 100 participants from all over the country.

We caught up with the winner of the Juniors Division, 10-year-old Maxx Peltier from Medford.

Big-time cornhole is coming to Southern Oregon next year, when Medford will host Oregon’s first American Cornhole Organization Major tournament.

The American Cornhole Organization “Majors” are the main points-earning tournaments for players to qualify for the World Championships of Cornhole held annually in July.

MEDFORD, Ore. – Travel Medford and the Southern Oregon Sports Commission announced that a world-ranking cornhole tournament is coming to Medford.

The American Cornhole Organization, the official governing body of the sport of cornhole, will be making Medford one of its “majors.”

The “Know Your Role” campaign started by the Southern Oregon Sports Commission and Travel Medford celebrated the people making a difference in our community today.

The campaign started in 2016 to address poor behavior toward sports officials by promoting a more positive message toward those who participate in youth sports.

Medford, Oregon is strengthening its elite tourism allure by swinging for the fences with a new, 140,000-square-foot sports complex. Located in the heart of the Rogue Valley, the aptly named and sponsored Rogue Credit Union Community Complex broke ground at Howard Memorial Sports Park on September 10, 2021, with a projected completion time frame for Autumn 2023. Known by the city as Rogue X for short, the $75.7 million state-of-the-art complex looks to improve quality of life in the community with its abundance of features.

That message of "You can be an athlete, a coach, a parent or an official, but you only get to be one — Know Your Role" was created by the SOSC in partnership with Travel Medford, with the goal of changing the trend of negative culture at local sporting events at the youth level. Now, it has been adopted nationally, spreading the message of positive sportsmanship and the love of the game.

In an agreement announced Tuesday morning, the SOSC, Travel Medford and USA Softball have formed an initial three-year partnership to push the Know Your Role campaign nationally. The effort is aimed at educating all parties involved in youth sports — athletes, coaches, parents and fans — about appropriate behavior directed toward officials and umpires.
